So what exactly is Reiki all about?
Reiki is something that I’m really passionate about and it has changed my life for the better in so many ways. I feel more connected to the Universal Source Energy and now live a more conscious and spiritual life in real life.
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese word consisting of two characters “Rei” and “Ki”.
Rei – is Japanese for ‘spiritual’ or ‘sacred’
Ki – is Japanese for ‘energy’.
Reiki literally translates as Spiritual Energy – or Universal Source Energy as I like to call it.
Rei represents the Holy Spirit, Gift, Nature Spirit or Invisible Spirit.
Ki represents the Physical Energy of Nature, Talent or Feelings.
Reiki is a specific healing support system, divided into three levels, which have been passed along from Reiki Master to the student for the past hundred years since its rediscovery by Mikao Usui.
The three Degrees of Reiki ……
REIKI LEVEL 1 ~ You are attuned by a Reiki Master to the first degree and he/she opens your channels and connects you to the Universal source energy. In an attunement, the sacred symbols are placed in your energy body (your Aura) and also into your Crown Chakra at the top of your head and into the palms of your hands. You are a channel for the Universal Source energy and it is transmitted through your hands. You may after an attunement feel that your hand’s tingle and/or heat up when you connect to the energy. This is a good sign and it is a good idea to practice on yourself on a daily basis as this not only heals you, but it also enhances the energy that you are new to channelling.
REIKI LEVEL 2 ~ you are given the 3 sacred symbols, the Cho ku rei (the power symbol) – the Sei hei ki (the emotional symbol) and the Hon sha ze sho nen which is the distant healing symbol. Reiki Level two amplifies the energy you can transmit and you also learn how to use the power symbol, distant healing symbol and the emotional healing symbol.
REIKI LEVEL 3 ~ you are given the final symbol, the Dai Ko Myo. This is the ‘Healing of the Soul’ symbol and is only given to Reiki Masters. Again this symbol enhances your energy even more. As a Reiki Master, you are then able to attune other people to this wonderful Source energy.
Reiki for me isn’t just something you ‘do’ once or twice a week, it is a way of being, a way of life.
These are the 5 Reiki Precepts …
Just for today – the importance of “today”, applicable to all five principles. How you live today determines whether or not you will complete the necessary learning. – Today- is a collection of moments. This teaches us to fully live each and every moment and this whole day. So for me, this is about being mindful and being in the moment (as the only moment we truly have is this moment now).
Do not get angry – recover the balance of mind and emotion with Reiki. Live a quiet and peaceful life. Anger hurts others and yourself. Anger doesn’t serve anyone. Yes, we all get angry from time to time but it doesn’t really serve us does it?
Do not worry – Reiki Mastership is the step for learning to fully trust the Universe. Do not have any unnecessary worries and fear. Do your best today and let the Universe take care of the rest, keeping the peace of your mind. It is the key to being free from fear to believe in the Universe and be one with the Universe. Again worry isn’t something that serves us. We do worry as humans but it only steals the joy from the present moment.
Be thankful – you naturally become thankful if you receive the benefit of Reiki and familiarise yourself with Reiki every day. Being thankful and being in gratitude is something that we can all do on a daily basis. You can write, daily, 3 things that you are grateful for and by doing so and living in a state of gratitude, you are aligning with the flow in terms of Law of Attraction and by being in gratitude you are opening up to all the abundance in the Universe. We have so much to be grateful for and it is easy to take things for granted.
Work hard – Usui Reiki shows how to utilise Reiki in everyday life and work. People will grow through work and learn through everyday life. Doing honest work is so gratifying. Sometimes people think that ‘energy work’ is something that should not be paid for – that it is a gift and people should give it away. I disagree with this as Reiki is energy, everything is energy and we need to be in fair exchange with others at all times.
Be kind to others – A sense of oneness can be developed naturally through Reiki healing (a practice of love). A healthy society can only be established through the cooperation of a large number of people, a collective consciousness. In the Universal dimension, there is no distinction between self and others, only the existence of the same soul. “Be kind to others’ is synonymous with “Be kind to yourself”. Being kind is something that we can all do on a daily basis.
Where can I use Reiki and what is Reiki good for are questions I often get asked:-
You can use Reiki on yourself, by doing daily self-treatments (which is encouraged as the more you use the Universal Source Energy the stronger your connection becomes). It can also be used in your everyday life, not just for a self-healing session because you can send Reiki to food, drinks, to your bed (so you sleep well), send Reiki to your car (so the car starts up and works properly), the list is endless. You can use Reiki everywhere and on every single thing! That just shows how awesome and amazing this energy is!
You can Reiki to situations, both past and present. This can be a bit of a ‘mind flip’ for people when they first learn Reiki and the fact that you can send Reiki backwards and forwards in time is something a lot of people struggle with initially. But Reiki knows no bounds in the sense of time, space or dimension. This is one of the things that I, personally, really love about Reiki. For example, to send healing backwards in time, you could send Reiki to yourself when you were younger and if maybe, something at a particular age happened, (for example if you were bullied at age 13 at school), you can send healing to your 13 year old self and also to the person who bullied you (as forgiveness is huge in Reiki and also imperative if you are living a conscious spiritual life). If you don’t forgive someone, you hold onto the anger, pain, hurt, resentment and a whole host of other toxic feelings that only lower your vibration and keep you stuck. By sending Reiki to a past hurt you are bringing that wound to the surface for healing.
You can send Reiki forwards in much the same way. If you are worried about a person or situation or something that is happening in your own life, you can send Reiki forwards to ‘heal the future situation’ and to help the situation. In Law of Attraction terms, this is similar to future segmenting whereby you ‘visualise’ each step bit by bit and hold the intention that it will all go smoothly and exactly as planned with grace and ease.
You can give Reiki to yourself and to other people, the benefits of Reiki are absolutely amazing. You can give Reiki to animals (both wild and domestic). I absolutely love to work with animals as they are very energy sensitive and tuned in.
Some of the benefits of Reiki include:-
Improved sleep, improved digestion, less anxiety, less pain, improved focus and memory, improvement in depressive symptoms, reduced side effects from medications and medical procedures, faster recovery from injuries and surgery, mood stabilization, enhanced resilience to stress, improved self esteem and Reiki can help many physical health issues alongside treatment from your doctor. Reiki can be used when people are making the transition from this world into Spirit. Also when animals are dying Reiki can help keep them calm and a sense of enhanced peace as well as helping with any pain and physical suffering. Reiki is beneficial for mind, body and spirit.
I strongly believe that we all have the ability to heal ourselves both physically and emotionally, and when we tap into this wonderful world of energy healing, we truly learn the benefits, and really feel and sense that we are all connected to ‘all that is’ and Divine Source Energy.
Reiki is a gift we can all have and it is a gift that keeps on giving.
I would encourage anyone who is thinking about learning Reiki to do so as it can make profound changes in your life.
I hope you enjoyed reading this article about Reiki, it really can change your life, and the life of your loved ones, friends, family & pets. As I said before, it truly is the gift that keeps on giving.
